What is a Songwriters Fest?
Where live music enjoyment introduces crowds to the faces, voices and stories behind the songs!
There are several highly acclaimed Songwriters Festivals throughout the US. Some great ones are The Frank Brown International Songwriters Festival in Lower Alabama and the Panhandle area as well as Tin Pan South in Nashville, TN to only name a couple.
Henderson plans to be the next great songwriting event on the banks of the Ohio throughout popular watering holes, dining establishments and other eclectic hang outs in downtown Henderson starting in 2012.
Our festival began with a two-day start-up event in 2010 and 2011. Our fan following has grown after experiencing this treasure and people are traveling far and wide to attend now. It will become an opportunity for songwriters and musicians from all over the world to have their songs heard and likewise for the public to hear the songs they know performed by the hit-making writers who created them. Plus, you will hear songs before they are released and can say -- I remember when I first heard that performed by the songwriter! The talent of these songwriters will captivate you more than the famous name artist singing themselves -- because you hear the stories behind a song.
Henderson was home to Kerry Kurt Phillips. Like WC Handy, Kerry is a modern day famous musician coming out of Henderson who has helped create a large body of work for the country music industry. This is an opportunity to celebrate him now and this amazing and fun art form while raising funds for a great cause...furthering music education for the youth and the musicians/artists of tomorrow through RiverBend Academy.
We anticipate this becoming another great festival for Henderson much like the acclaimed WC Handy Blues & Barbecue Festival and the Bluegrass in the Park Folklife Festival. We are dedicated to keeping this in August or September annually. We hope you will support this endeavor.
